BlackBerry wireless e-mail solution
The BlackBerry wireless e-mail solution delivers office e-mail to business people on the move. BlackBerry allows you to send and receive e-mail wherever you are using a handheld device that is small enough to fit in your pocket.
Benefits
BlackBerry offers the following key benefits to an organisation and its users:
- Allows access to office e-mail whilst away from the office
- Enables workers to keep on top of their e-mails throughout the day
- Transforms wasted time such as waiting at a train station into productive time
- Drives quicker decision-making – users can obtain important data whilst at a customer/supplier location
- Improves productivity, saving time and money
BlackBerry integrates with both Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino e-mail systems. The solution works with the user’s existing e-mail account – there is no need for a second e-mail address.
How BlackBerry works
BlackBerry server software is installed behind the corporate firewall on a server that communicates with an organisation's e-mail server. The software recognises e-mails that are delivered to users’ office mailboxes and passes them on to the users’ own BlackBerry handsets.
The solution uses the latest “always on” GPRS mobile technology. This means that users can access e-mails straight away from their handsets without the need for lengthy and costly dial-ups.
Features
The key features of the BlackBerry solution include:
- Advanced wireless handsets - slim and lightweight (139g) with a large screen, keyboard and embedded wireless modem (no external antenna required)
- Always on, always connected – BlackBerry is designed to operate 24 hours per day and remain connected to the GPRS wireless network to allow easy notification of incoming email. It uses a unique “push” model of email delivery: email automatically finds the user; there is no need to dial-up
- End-to-end security – e-mail is encrypted using Triple DES symmetric key technology and remains encrypted at all points between the user’s e-mail account (behind the corporate firewall) and the user's wireless handheld. This means that BlackBerry meets strict corporate security guidelines.
- Powerful e-mail features – you can read, write, forward, reply, delete or file messages using the wireless handheld (inbox and folders are synchronized easily between the wireless handheld and PC)
- Full-featured, connected “Personal Information Management” organiser –that includes such things as a calendar, address book, task list and memo pad, all of which synchronise with your PC
